Reacting to the arrest of its India country head William S. Pinckney and two directors by Kerala Police on cheating charges, Amway India Enterprises on Monday said that they always co-operated with police in the financial irregularity case.
"With respect to the Wayanad case of 2011, for which it is believed that arrest warrants have been issued, the company or its officials were not issued any summons to join the investigation, nor was any information sought... The company management would have been happy to cooperate with the Wayanad Police... as we always have as a law abiding corporate citizens, following all laid down laws of the land," said a statement from Amway on Monday night.
The case was filed by a woman in Kerala in 2012.
"Our management represented by Pinckney, Anshu Budhraja and Sanjay Malhotra have always been present to answer any queries that the Crime Branch has had," said the release .
Mail Today reports: Pinckney, Sanjay Malhotra and Anshu Budhraja were questioned earlier this month and asked to report to the police on Monday, when they were again interrogated by the Economic Offences Wing and later arrested by the Wayanad police.
The arrests were made on a warrant issued in three cases registered by the Wayanad Crime Branch in 2011 on charges of violation of the Price Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning Act), crime branch sources said.
Amway has been accused of selling low-priced products at inflated prices. The Kerala Police have registered four cases against Pinckney; three in Wayanad and one at Kozhikode.
In November last year, the crime branch had raided godowns of the company at Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur and Ernakulam and seized products worth Rs 2.14 crore. Following the raids, the com-pany's Kerala chief Rajkumar was arrested and the ware-houses sealed.
